Lauren Makler

Lauren Makler is the Co-Founder and CEO of Cofertility, a human-first fertility ecosystem rewriting the egg freezing and egg donation experience. Previously, as an early Uber employee, Lauren founded Uber Health, a product that enables healthcare organizations to leverage Uber’s massive driver network in improving healthcare outcomes through patient transportation and healthcare delivery. Under her leadership, the business helped millions of patients get to the care they needed. Prior to that, Lauren spent the early years at Uber launching the core business throughout the east coast and led the company’s first experiment in healthcare, national on demand flu shot campaigns. After a rare disease diagnosis, Lauren’s fertility journey led her to believe that everyone should have the opportunity to freeze their eggs–and that there should be better access to egg donors. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband and their miracle baby girl.

Cofertility is thrilled to share that we raised our Series A funding, led by Next Ventures and Offline Ventures, with participation from Initialized Capital, Arkitekt Ventures, Foreground Capital, Gratitude Railroad, How Women Invest, Gaingels, and Everywhere Ventures. This milestone is a powerful endorsement of our model and a reflection of the growing momentum behind our mission: to make egg freezing more accessible, egg donation less transactional, and fertility care more equitable, transparent, and human-centered.

Since launching, Cofertility has helped women take control of their reproductive futures through our Split program, which enables eligible members to freeze their eggs for free when they donate half of the eggs retrieved to a family who can’t otherwise conceive.

Our unique egg sharing model helps solve long-standing issues in the fertility space. We’re expanding access to egg freezing, increasing donor diversity for families, and offering an alternative to the outdated practices that tie donor compensation to subjective, and often problematic, criteria.

With this fundraising round, we’re doubling down on this mission.
‍

What this means for our members

Our Series A funding will help us:

  • Expand and improve our technology. We’ll continue to invest in the development of our proprietary, custom-built platform that streamlines the entire egg sharing process, from making matches to managing the journeys of our members. We aim to make the entire experience as seamless and supportive as possible.
  • Grow our team. As interest in our programs continues to grow, we’ll use this funding to help us scale our operations and better support our increasing community of Split members and intended parents.
  • Strengthen clinic and partner relationships. We’ll continue to prioritize building connections with healthcare providers and partners to help us further expand access and make affordable fertility care more widely available.
  • Expand advocacy and awareness efforts. We’re passionate about driving meaningful change in fertility care, from breaking down stigmas to highlighting the unique challenges faced by underrepresented communities. This work is core to our mission, and we’re just getting started.

We’re honored to have the backing of visionary investors who believe in our mission to transform fertility care by empowering patients with more flexible and transparent options. Their support brings us closer to a future where everyone has the opportunity to build the family they dream of — on their own terms and timelines.

Infertility affects millions of people, yet it remains a topic that is often misunderstood or avoided. National Infertility Awareness Week (NIAW), held this year from April 20-26, 2025, is an opportunity to acknowledge the emotional, physical, and financial realities of those facing family-building challenges. It’s also a time to push for better access to fertility care, share real stories, and remind those struggling that they are not alone.

For intended parents considering egg donation, infertility can feel like a series of unexpected turns. The decision to use donor eggs is not made lightly—it often follows years of unsuccessful treatments, heartbreak, and soul-searching. But while egg donation offers a viable path to parenthood, the process can still be emotionally and financially overwhelming. This is why we started Cofertility.

Our approach is unique. Intended parents who have faced infertility can build their families through egg donation, while our Split members—who freeze their eggs for free in exchange for donating half—expand their future family-building options. It’s a model that brings more equity to fertility care, helping more people plan for parenthood on their own terms.

In this article, we’ll explore the stigma surrounding infertility, what it means to turn to egg donation, and how people can take action during NIAW.

Why infertility is still hard to talk about

Even with growing awareness, infertility remains a topic many people struggle to discuss openly. For some, it carries a sense of personal failure, even though medical science tells us otherwise. Others worry about judgment from family, friends, or cultural and religious communities.

The emotional toll is significant. Infertility can impact relationships, self-esteem, and mental health. It has been found that stress levels faced by those experiencing infertility are similar to people with cancer diagnoses. And yet, many still suffer in silence, feeling isolated in an experience that affects 1 in 6 couples.

This is why awareness weeks like NIAW matter. They create space for conversations that people may otherwise avoid. For intended parents considering donor eggs, speaking openly about their family-building decisions can help normalize the process and reduce the stigma for future generations.

Why intended parents turn to egg donation

For many, using an egg donor is not the first choice—it’s a decision that comes after exhausting other options. Some people turn to donor eggs due to medical conditions, such as premature ovarian failure, diminished ovarian reserve, or genetic concerns. Others, including LGBTQ+ couples and single parents by choice, use donor eggs as a planned part of their fertility process.

One common fear among intended parents is whether they will feel connected to a child who doesn’t share their genetic makeup. The truth is, parenthood is built on far more than DNA. Research into epigenetics suggests that a birth parent’s body influences how genes are expressed during pregnancy, reinforcing the idea that parenting begins well before birth.

Still, the decision isn’t always easy. Some parents-to-be struggle with grief over not passing on their own genetics. Others feel pressure to choose a donor who looks like them or worry about how to talk to their child about their origin story. These are normal concerns, and part of raising awareness is helping intended parents work through them with the right information and support.

What makes egg sharing particularly special is that it’s not just helping one family—it’s helping two. When a young woman donates half of her retrieved eggs through the Split program, she’s not only giving an intended parent the chance to have a child, but she’s also preserving her own fertility for the future. Our model makes egg freezing more accessible, expanding reproductive choices for more people.

Ways to participate in National Infertility Awareness Week

NIAW is more than just a time for reflection—it’s a time for action. Whether you’re an intended parent, an advocate, or someone supporting a loved one, here’s how you can get involved:

  • Share your story. If you feel comfortable, talking about your experience with infertility or egg donation can help others feel less alone.
  • Support advocacy efforts. Organizations like RESOLVE fight for better fertility coverage and legal protections. Consider signing petitions or contacting lawmakers.
  • Educate yourself and others. Misinformation about infertility and donor conception is common. Use this week to learn and share accurate information.
  • Show support on social media. A simple post can help spread awareness. Use hashtags like #NIAW2025 and #InfertilityAwareness to join the conversation.

Moving forward with more support and less stigma

National Infertility Awareness Week is about shining a light on a topic that too often remains in the shadows. Infertility is not a personal failure, and using an egg donor does not make someone any less of a parent. These are real, viable paths to family-building, and they deserve to be talked about openly and without shame.

For those still in the middle of the process, know this: you are not alone. There is a growing community of intended parents, donors, and advocates working to make fertility care more accessible and to ensure that no one has to walk this road without support. The more we talk, the more we normalize—and the closer we get to a world where infertility is met with understanding rather than silence.

International Donor Conception Awareness Day was created in 2020 by therapist Jana M. Rupnow, LPC, author of Three Makes Baby, alongside twenty global partners. This day has grown into a significant moment for recognizing and discussing the experiences of donor-conceived people, their families, and the donors who help make their existence possible. At Cofertility, we believe this day serves as a reminder of our responsibility to consider the perspectives and needs of donor-conceived children in every decision we make.

Every day we're working to create better outcomes for donor-conceived people through ethical practices, transparency, and support for all parties involved. From our human-centered Split program to our commitment to educating families on disclosed egg donation, we're focused on fostering positive lifelong experiences for the tiny humans we help bring into this world. Here's how we're approaching this important work and what we've learned along the way.

About Cofertility

Cofertility is a human-first fertility ecosystem rewriting the egg freezing and egg donation experience. Our Spit Program honors families and egg donors with a thoughtful, human-centered matching experience. Our unique egg sharing model empowers women to take control of their own reproductive health while giving families the gift of a lifetime.

A human-centered approach

At Cofertility, every policy and program element considers the potential impact on donor-conceived people. Here's how we implement this human-centered approach:

  • Disclosed donation: We highly encourage disclosed donations as we’ve met with the US Donor Conceived Council and heard from the donor conceived community that disclosed is best for the donor conceived person. Over 80% of our matches are disclosed.
  • Thorough screening process: Our screening process includes comprehensive genetic testing, detailed family medical history review, psychological evaluation including discussion of future contact, and criminal background checks to ensure the health and safety of everyone involved.
  • Parent education: We provide intended parents with lifetime support and resources for age-appropriate disclosure, guidance on maintaining records, and support for discussing genetic origins with their children.
  • No cash comp: A recent Harvard study revealed that 62% of donor-conceived adults viewed the exchange of money for donor gametes as ethically problematic, with 41% expressing discomfort regarding the monetary aspect of their conception. Our egg sharing model takes cash out of the equation. Plus, with cash compensation eliminated from the process, our donors are also less likely to donate to multiple families. This limits the number of potential biological siblings your future child may have.

The Split program difference

Our Split program represents a new era egg donation - one that creates inherent connections between donors and the families they help. When women donate through Split, they keep a portion of the eggs while helping another family conceive. This shared experience often leads to more openness and understanding between all parties.

The program naturally selects for donors who are thoughtful about their impact. These donors tend to be more invested in the process and more open to contact. In fact, 80% of our matches are disclosed.

In addition to providing egg donors with more options and agency, research indicates that egg sharing donors consistently report higher levels of satisfaction and positive experiences, underscoring the transformative impact of this approach on donor well-being.

Learning from research and lived experiences

Studies on donor conception continue to shape best practices in the field. Research shows that early disclosure of donor conception leads to better outcomes for children. We encourage intended parents to be open with their children from an early age about their origins.

We also learn from donor-conceived adults who share their stories. Their experiences highlight the importance of:

  • Understanding medical history
  • Moving away from anonymity in egg donation
  • Limiting the number of genetic siblings
  • Having a voice in donation practices

We promise to continue to listen to and learn from donor-conceived voices, adapt our practices based on their feedback, and always prioritize the needs of future donor-conceived people in our program. We don’t follow industry standards—we help set them, with the well-being of donor-conceived people at the center of every decision we make.

Our ongoing commitment

The field of donor conception continues to evolve, driven by new research, technological advances, and most importantly, the voices of donor-conceived people. At Cofertility, we stay focused on creating positive outcomes for the children born through our program.

We understand that our work affects real lives and future generations. By maintaining high ethical standards, prioritizing transparency, and providing comprehensive support, we aim to serve the best interests of donor-conceived children while supporting all members of the donor conception community.

This International Donor Conception Awareness Day, we renew our dedication to putting future children first. Through careful consideration of their needs and rights, we work to ensure that donor-conceived people have the resources, information, and support they need throughout their lives.

As we celebrate Women's History Month, we're highlighting eight remarkable women who spent their lifetimes breaking through the “glass ceiling” to revolutionize reproductive medicine and fertility care. From pioneering physicians who broke racial barriers and brought crucial healthcare to underserved communities, to brilliant scientists who developed groundbreaking IVF techniques, to advocates who changed public perception of fertility treatment - these women have transformed countless lives through their dedication and innovation.

Each of these trailblazers faced unique challenges. Some overcame discrimination as women of color in medicine during the civil rights era. Others fought for recognition of their scientific contributions in male-dominated fields. Together, their work spans nearly a century of progress in reproductive medicine, from the development of early screening tools for women's health to the birth of the first IVF baby in America.

Today, millions of families exist because of the foundations these women built. Their legacy lives on not only in the medical techniques they pioneered, but in their dedication to making fertility care more accessible, equitable, and accepted. Here are eight women whose contributions to reproductive medicine deserve to be celebrated and remembered:

Dr. Helen Octavia Dickens (1909-2001)

A pioneering Black physician who broke numerous racial barriers in medicine. She was the first Black woman to receive board certification in obstetrics and gynecology and became director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Mercy Douglass Hospital in Philadelphia. She was instrumental in popularizing Pap smear screenings among Black women, driving an American Cancer Society van to provide free screenings at local churches. She established innovative teen pregnancy and sexual health education programs, worked extensively on cervical cancer prevention in underserved communities, and as associate dean for minority affairs at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School, significantly increased minority student enrollment.

Dr. Georgeanna Seegar Jones (1912-2005)

A groundbreaking reproductive endocrinologist who made multiple fundamental discoveries in fertility medicine. As a medical student in 1936, she was the first to prove that pregnancy hormone (hCG) originated from the placenta rather than the pituitary. She became the first full-time reproductive endocrinologist at a medical school and, with her husband Howard Jones, established the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology at Johns Hopkins in 1939. Her research led to crucial discoveries including the "luteal phase defect" in infertility (1949) and "ovarian resistance syndrome" (1969). In 1978, she and Howard established one of the first IVF clinics in the U.S. at Eastern Virginia Medical School, achieving the nation's first IVF birth in 1981. As director of the Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine, her work laid crucial foundations for modern fertility treatment.

Lillian Lincoln Howell (1920-2014)

Lillian Lincoln Howell was a philanthropist who made IVF possible through her early funding. After experiencing fertility challenges herself, she anonymously donated money to fund Dr. Robert Edwards, Patrick Steptoe, and Jean Purdy's groundbreaking IVF research when they were denied traditional funding. Her support led directly to the birth of Louise Brown, the world's first IVF baby in 1978. While maintaining anonymity during her lifetime, she built a successful media empire founding KTSF, a groundbreaking TV station serving Chinese and Japanese American communities in San Francisco.

Dr. Anne McLaren (1927-2007)

A developmental biologist whose research in the 1950s led to a landmark paper in the journal Nature, laying important groundwork for human IVF. She had successfully grown mouse embryos in the lab that were then transferred into the wombs of female mice, where they grew into healthy mice. Her lab proved it was possible to mix sperm and eggs outside of the body to create a healthy embryo which could then be transferred to the womb. After IVF became more common, she played a major role in shaping fertility policy and frequently spoke out in the media on issues of ethics in IVF.

Dr. Jean Purdy (1945-1985)

A brilliant embryologist and pioneering researcher who was instrumental in the world's first successful IVF birth, yet was often overlooked in historical accounts. As the world's first IVF nurse and embryologist, she worked alongside Robert Edwards and Patrick Steptoe to develop the techniques that made IVF possible. She meticulously developed the culture media used to grow embryos outside the body, and was the first to observe cell division in the embryo that would become Louise Brown. She co-founded the world's first IVF clinic, Bourn Hall, and co-authored 26 papers on IVF development between 1970-1985. Despite being an equal partner in developing IVF technology and making numerous crucial scientific contributions, her role was frequently minimized or omitted from historical records, leading Edwards to later state that "her contribution was equal to that of himself and Steptoe."

Dr. PonJola Coney (born 1951)

A pioneering reproductive endocrinologist who broke multiple barriers in medicine and IVF treatment. As one of the only Black American IVF pioneers in the early 1980s, she completed her fellowship at Pennsylvania Hospital during its first successful IVF births. She went on to establish the first IVF program in Oklahoma and created groundbreaking infertility programs at multiple universities including the University of Nebraska and University of Arizona, leading to over 500 births. In 1994, she became the first African American woman to serve as a medical school dean in the U.S. at Southern Illinois University. Her work has focused on addressing health disparities and advancing women's health, leading to her election to the National Academy of Medicine.

“Patient 38”

Only known as “Patient 38,” this woman underwent ten attempts at IVF between 1969-1978 when it was still experimental. At a time when infertility was heavily stigmatized and IVF was experimental, she and other early patients showed remarkable courage in pursuing treatment. Despite not achieving a successful pregnancy herself, her persistence and willingness to undergo multiple procedures helped pave the way for the development of IVF technology that would eventually help millions of families.

Elizabeth Carr (born 1981)

The first IVF baby born in the United States, she has become a powerful advocate for fertility treatment accessibility and reproductive medicine. As a journalist and public speaker, she helps educate the public about IVF and has been instrumental in reducing stigma around fertility treatments. Her healthy birth and subsequent natural pregnancy of her own child helped demonstrate the safety and success of IVF technology.

10 Reasons Why Cofertility Was Named One of the Best Egg Banks

When we started Cofertility, we saw an industry needing better options. Traditional egg donation often felt transactional, overlooking the human elements involved. We believed there had to be a better way - one that honored the experiences of egg donors, supported the hopes of intended parents, and prioritized the future well-being of donor-conceived people. This belief led us to create a human-centered approach that has redefined what egg donation can be.As we share the ten reasons behind this recognition, we want to acknowledge that our success comes from listening to our community. The insights of donors, intended parents, donor-conceived individuals, and medical professionals have shaped every aspect of our program. Here's what makes Cofertility different:

We're proud to be recognized by numerous leaders in the fertility space as one of the best egg donor programs. From major publications to trusted organizations like Egg Donor Connect—who has honored us as a top program every year since our founding—this recognition validates our mission to create meaningful change in the fertility industry. But more importantly, it reflects the trust that families, donors, and medical professionals have placed in us.

This belief led us to create a human-centered approach that has redefined what egg donation can be.

As we share the ten reasons behind this recognition, we want to acknowledge that our success comes from listening to our community. The insights of donors, intended parents, donor-conceived individuals, and medical professionals have shaped every aspect of our program. Here's what makes Cofertility different:

1. We've scaled egg sharing globally

While egg sharing isn't new - it's been helping build families for decades - Cofertility has brought this concept to a national, and even global, scale. We work with over 75 clinics across the United States, making egg-sharing accessible to more families than ever before. In this model, women freeze their eggs for free when they donate half to a family that can’t otherwise conceive. This creates a meaningful connection between donor and recipient from the start.

Our ability to scale egg sharing means more options for intended parents and more opportunities for women to preserve their own fertility while helping others. By partnering with clinics nationwide, we ensure high-quality care and consistent protocols while maintaining the personal touch that makes egg-sharing special.

2. We prioritize donor well-being

Unlike other agencies that encourage donors to complete multiple cycles (sometimes more than 5 or 6) to maximize profit, Cofertility takes a different approach. Most of our egg donors complete at most two cycles - one to donate and one for their own future use. This not only reduces the physical and emotional impact on donors but also limits the number of potential half-siblings, an important consideration for donor-conceived people.

Our focus on donor well-being extends beyond cycle limits. We provide comprehensive medical and psychological screening, ongoing support throughout the process, and clear information about what to expect. This approach leads to better donor experiences and, ultimately, better outcomes for recipient families.

3. We are the first and only to offer a baby guarantee

Our baby guarantee reflects our commitment to family-building success. Unlike other programs that charge premium fees for guarantees, or nothing at all, we include this protection in our base pricing because we believe it's the right thing to do. This program helps ensure intended parents can continue their family-building journey even if unexpected challenges arise.

The program covers various scenarios throughout the donation process. If a donor doesn't meet medical clearance requirements, if the cycle yields insufficient viable eggs, or if other clinical milestones aren't met, we provide options for continuing with a new match or, in some cases a refund. We've structured this program thoughtfully to align with clinical best practices while providing intended parents with clarity and peace of mind. Learn more about our Baby Guarantee.

4. We pioneered mutual matching

Our introduction of mutual matching represented a significant shift in egg donation. Instead of donors being passive participants selected from a database, they actively opt into each match. While this approach requires more resources and coordination, we believe giving donors more autonomy leads to better outcomes for everyone involved.

This two-way matching process creates a foundation of mutual respect and shared purpose. Donors feel empowered in their decision-making, and intended parents know their donor has specifically chosen to help their family. Though it's more complex than traditional matching, we've found that this approach leads to more positive experiences and strengthens the ethical framework of egg donation.

5. We're transparent about who we are

In an industry where many organizations operate behind closed doors, we believe transparency builds trust. Something as simple as having a team page, which is normal for most businesses, sets us apart in this industry. This openness isn't just about putting faces to names - it's about accountability and showing that real people are dedicated to supporting our members.

When you're making such significant decisions about becoming an egg donor or working with an egg donor to build your family, you deserve to know who's guiding you through the process. Our team is incredible and everyone has their own stories and motivations for working in fertility, creating genuine connections with the families and donors we serve. This transparency extends to our policies, pricing, and processes, ensuring you have all the information needed to make informed decisions.

6. We offer relationship options

The traditional anonymous-only model of egg donation doesn't serve everyone's needs. We recognize that donor conception creates lifelong connections, and different people have different comfort levels with contact. That's why we offer various relationship options, allowing families and donors to choose the level of communication that feels right for them.

This flexibility extends throughout the lifetime of the relationship. We provide tools and support for managing these connections, whether our members prefer occasional updates or more regular contact. Our approach acknowledges that needs and comfort levels may change over time, and we help navigate these evolving relationships with sensitivity and care.

7. We center donor-conceived children

The needs and experiences of donor-conceived people guide every aspect of our program. Through extensive consultation with adult donor-conceived individuals and ongoing research, we've developed practices that prioritize the future well-being of the children born through our program.

This commitment manifests in multiple ways. We encourage disclosed donations. We provide parents with evidence-based guidance for talking about donor conception from an early age. Our communication tools help families maintain appropriate connections with donors, ensuring children have access to their genetic history if they choose. We also limit the number of families each donor can help, considering the impact of genetic siblings on donor-conceived people's experiences.

8. We have both fresh and frozen egg donation options

Our program offers both fresh donation cycles and frozen donor eggs, allowing donors, clinics, and intended parents to select the most appropriate clinical approach. Each option maintains consistent screening standards and quality controls while accommodating different medical circumstances and timing requirements.

Both programs operate under strict protocols, with our team coordinating closely with fertility clinics to ensure smooth implementation. This flexibility in treatment approaches, combined with standardized processes, supports optimal clinical decision-making.

9. We maintain rigorous screening protocols

Our screening process exceeds industry requirements, integrating comprehensive medical, genetic, and psychological evaluations. These protocols prioritize both donor safety and the well-being of future donor-conceived children. Each evaluation is standardized across our clinic network, ensuring consistent quality regardless of location or program type.

We work closely with fertility clinics to coordinate thorough screening processes while maintaining strict standards. This includes detailed genetic carrier screening, psychological assessments, and comprehensive medical history reviews that look beyond immediate health factors to consider long-term implications for all parties. Our systematic approach helps protect donor health while providing intended parents and healthcare providers with detailed information to support informed medical decisions.

10. We offer lifetime support

Egg donation isn't a one-time event - it's the beginning of a lifelong journey. That's why our support extends far beyond the matching process. We provide comprehensive educational modules, connect you with experienced professionals, and facilitate support groups where you can share experiences with others who understand your path.

Our commitment to lifetime support includes practical tools for navigating various stages of family building. From guidance on talking to children about their origins to resources for managing family dynamics, we're here for the long haul. We regularly update our educational materials based on new research and feedback from our community, ensuring you have access to the most current information and support.

Our commitment to excellence

Being named one of the Best Egg Donor Programs validates our approach, but we're not resting on our laurels. We continuously seek feedback from our community, stay current with research in the field, and look for ways to improve our services. The fertility industry continues to evolve, and we're committed to leading positive change while maintaining the highest standards of care and support.

Looking ahead, we'll continue to innovate while staying true to our core values of transparency, ethical practice, and human-centered care. Whether you're considering becoming an egg donor or using donor eggs to build your family, we invite you to learn more about how our approach can support your goals. Our team is here to answer your questions and help you understand all your options.

At Cofertility, we believe that everyone deserves support in building their family, and we're honored to be recognized for our work in making that possible. We look forward to continuing to serve our community with the same dedication and care that earned us this recognition.

Sharapova’s decision to invest in Cofertility stems from her strong belief that everyone should have the opportunity to take control of their reproductive potential. Together, we share the conviction that egg freezing is an important tool for driving gender equality and leading the charge in this movement. With our Freeze by Co platform and our unique egg sharing model, eligible members can freeze their eggs for free when they donate half of the eggs retrieved to a family that can’t otherwise conceive. This approach not only broadens access to egg freezing for women across the nation but also provides intended parents with a human-centered, value-driven path to growing their families through egg donation.

Beyond increasing the affordability and accessibility of fertility preservation, Cofertility and Sharapova share a vision for advancing better reproductive education. Together, we aim to empower women with the knowledge and resources needed to make the best decisions for their bodies and futures. “Breaking down barriers, whether financial, educational, or social, is essential in giving women the autonomy they deserve,” said Sharapova.

We are excited to welcome Maria Sharapova to the Cofertility family and are confident that her investment will amplify our mission. Her dedication to advancing women’s autonomy and her forward-thinking approach to innovation make her an ideal partner in reshaping the fertility landscape. Together, we are driving toward a future where every woman has the resources and support to make informed, confident decisions about her reproductive journey.

Ethics is at the heart of everything we do. We’ve set out to build something special – centering on families, honoring donors, and recognizing the needs and rights of the humans we are helping create.

We’re not alone in trying to raise the bar for our industry. The Society for Ethics and Egg Donation (SEEDS)  is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to define and promote ethical behavior by all parties involved in third party reproduction. And today we are proud to announce that Cofertility has been accepted as a member of SEEDS.

SEEDS was founded by a group of egg donation and surrogacy agencies to give organizations a voice in defining ethical standards for egg donation and surrogacy.

We are thrilled to be official members, though we actually built our program with the SEEDS Standards as our guideposts. We are committed to building a more ethical egg donation platform and are excited to be part of an organization that reflects those same ideas.  In addition to our agreement to abide by SEEDS standards, we look forward to getting  involved with other initiatives ranging from monthly brown bag lunches to the SEEDS conference.

We’re glad to be part of the SEEDS ecosystem. Thank you to all of the SEEDS volunteers who have made the organization what it is today - we appreciate you and are excited to get to know you!

As we continue to work towards our mission of improving the family-building process for all (today or in the future), we’re excited to grow our team to help us get there. Today, we’re thrilled to announce that Pomi Tefera has joined the Cofertility team as Head of Operations & Strategy.

Joining us from Token Transit, where she served as the Director of Operations, Pomi is deeply curious about technology that transforms how people manage their basic needs in the physical world. At Token Transit, Pomi was responsible for growth & partnerships – she helped grow the mobile ticketing platform to reach riders served by 170+ transit agencies, scaled transit pass distribution programs, and launched API integration partnerships.

As part of Cofertility’s Founding Team, Pomi will lead the charge on building out, scaling, and managing company product and clinical operations, partnerships, and strategic finance functions. She’ll obsess over member needs on a daily basis, and oversee the programmatic components of their journey on our platform. Pomi is a firm believer that centering people — what they hope to accomplish and how they navigate their needs — is essential to mobilizing teams and driving business impact.

Prior to Token Transit, Pomi’s career has spanned finance, strategy and product operations at General Electric and Uber. I had the pleasure of working directly with Pomi during her time on Uber’s Strategic Finance team. Pomi was a critical partner in developing the initial business case for Uber Health and I had the best time working with her on it. Our pitch to leadership for Uber Health was successful, and the rest is history. I’m forever thankful for her partnership then and am so thrilled to have it again now.

When we asked Pomi about her first week with Cofertility, she told us, “I’m so grateful for this opportunity to change the world of family planning and ready to empower women to own their fertility timelines.”

We can’t wait to do this together. Welcome to the team, Pomi!
