What to Know About Finding Donor Eggs in New York

If you’re considering using donor eggs to grow your family, you’re not alone — and you’re in the right place. Whether you're just starting to explore donor conception or you’ve already decided donor egg IVF is the right path for you, finding clear, reliable information can make the process feel a little less overwhelming.

New York offers some of the most supportive resources for intended parents pursuing donor egg IVF. But even with access to excellent clinics and experienced providers, understanding how it all works — from matching with a donor to creating embryos — can feel like a lot to take in.

In this article, we’ll walk you through what to expect when pursuing donor egg IVF in New York, what makes the process here a little different, and how Cofertility’s unique approach can help support you every step of the way.

What you should know about egg donation in New York

New York has specific rules and protections that make it an especially supportive place for intended parents:

  • Parentage is protected: Intended parents using egg donation are recognized as the child's legal parents from birth, providing peace of mind that there won’t be unexpected legal hurdles.
  • Strong medical standards: New York fertility clinics — including our partner clinics — uphold some of the highest medical and ethical standards in the country when it comes to donor screening and cycle management.
  • Generous employer benefits: New York City employees now get up to $10,000 benefit that can go towards the cost of donor egg IVF.
  • Surrogacy is now legal: Thanks to the Child-Parent Security Act, you can legally work with a gestational carrier, if necessary, and ensure all agreements are clear and enforceable.

At Cofertility, we work closely with reputable clinics and legal teams familiar with New York’s regulations, so your experience stays on track from match to retrieval.

New York now requires employers to give paid time off for fertility treatments

Starting January 1, 2025, private sector employees in New York State are entitled to 20 hours of paid leave annually for fertility treatments. This leave is separate from existing sick leave or other paid time off.

Key points about using New York’s Paid Prenatal Leave for donor egg IVF:

  • It covers fertility treatment and care
  • Must be paid at your regular rate of pay
  • Can be taken in hourly increments
  • No medical documentation required
  • Available immediately upon hiring
  • Cannot be denied when requested
  • Protected from retaliation

The 20-hour allowance runs for 52 weeks from your first use, not the calendar year. Unused hours don't carry over. The 20-hour allowance should cover most or all appointments in a typical egg freezing cycle, including consultations, monitoring visits, and retrieval day.

Finding an egg donor in New York

At Cofertility, we believe matching with an egg donor should feel personal, transparent, and fully supported. Here's how it works:

When you partner with Cofertility, you’ll gain access to our curated database of pre-qualified donors. Every donor is thoroughly screened before they’re ever shown to intended parents — saving you time and ensuring that the profiles you review meet strict medical, genetic, and psychological standards.

Unlike traditional egg donation models, our donors aren’t participating for financial compensation alone. Through our egg sharing model, donors freeze their own eggs for free in exchange for donating half of the eggs retrieved. This unique model attracts donors who are truly motivated by a shared commitment to family-building, not just financial incentives.

By working with Cofertility, you’re not just finding a donor — you’re joining a community focused on transparency, respect, and empowerment.

What makes Cofertility different

If you’re considering finding an egg donor in New York, you might notice that traditional agency models can feel transactional. Donors are often primarily financially motivated, and intended parents can face steep fees and long wait times.

Cofertility offers a better way:

  • Ethically-minded donors: Our donors participate because they want to help another family while taking care of their own future fertility.
  • Lower costs: Our model is more affordable than traditional agency models because donors aren’t seeking cash compensation.
  • Greater transparency: We support disclosed donations whenever possible, so the resulting child has the opportunity to learn more about their background in the future if they wish.
  • Options: We offer both fresh and frozen eggs.
  • Personalized support: Our team will guide you through matching, medical steps, legal agreements, and beyond — so you’re never left guessing.

We’re proud to offer a better, more human-centered approach to egg donation — one that honors intended parents, donors, and most importantly the future children we help bring into this world.

Planning your egg donation process in New York

Once you choose Cofertility, here’s what the general process looks like:

  1. Match with a donor: Our team will help you navigate profiles and prioritize the characteristics that matter most to you.
  2. Meet with the donor (optional): Unlike other agencies, we give intended parents and donors the opportunity to participate in a match meeting.
  3. Finalize legal agreements: We’ll connect you with legal professionals who specialize in New York reproductive law.
  4. Coordinate the cycle: Working with your clinic, we’ll ensure that everything from medications to egg retrieval is planned and managed.
  5. Support at every step: From matching through embryo creation (and beyond), Cofertility remains available to answer questions and offer guidance.

If you choose our frozen donor egg program, the process is faster as you receive the eggs soon after match.

Our goal is to keep the process as smooth and supported as possible — so you can focus on the bigger picture: building your family.

Final thoughts

Finding an egg donor in New York doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. With Cofertility, you have a trusted partner who understands the legal, medical, and emotional parts of the process — and who’s committed to making it a positive experience for everyone involved.
