The Cofertility team has had the privilege of working with Men Having Babies (MHB) to help gay men start families. We have been impressed by the organization's commitment to providing comprehensive support and resources for prospective fathers, and we have seen firsthand the positive impact that their work has on the lives of LGBTQ+ families. If you are an aspiring gay dad, we highly recommend getting to know this organization!
What is Men Having Babies?
Men Having Babies is an international non-profit organization that provides support and resources for gay men who want to become parents or grow their families. Founded in 2012, the organization has helped hundreds of gay men become fathers and has also advocated for the rights of LGBTQ+ parents and their children.
The mission of Men Having Babies is to provide practical and emotional support to gay men who are looking to start families. The organization offers a variety of programs and services to help prospective parents navigate the complex process of surrogacy, including educational seminars, online resources, and financial assistance programs.
Benefits of joining Men Having Babies
One of the key services provided by Men Having Babies are their events, hosted in cities around the world from New York to Berlin to Taiwan (you can often find the Cofertility team in attendance!). These events bring together experts in the field of surrogacy, egg donation, and fertility, as well as intended parents, to provide information, education, and support. The conference also offers a chance for attendees to connect with others who are going through similar experiences, and to learn from the experiences of those who have already completed the journey.
In addition to their conferences, Men Having Babies offers a range of other resources for prospective fathers. They provide online webinars and workshops on topics like egg donation, legal issues, and insurance, as well as an online directory that lists surrogacy agencies, IVF clinics, and other resources for gay men.
Men Having Babies also offers a financial assistance program, which provides grants to gay men who need help paying for surrogacy-related expenses. This program is funded through donations from individuals and organizations, like ours, who support the mission.
One of the things that sets Men Having Babies apart from other organizations is their focus on emotional support. They recognize that the process can be emotionally challenging for prospective fathers, and they offer a range of resources to help them navigate those challenges. These resources include support groups, counseling services, and a peer-to-peer mentorship program.
Who started Men Having Babies?
Another thing we love about Men Having Babies is that it was founded by a gay dad who had gone through the process with his husband and wanted to share his knowledge and support to make it easier for other gay men to have children. He recognized that the process could be expensive, complicated, and emotionally challenging, and he wanted to help others navigate it with confidence and support.
Ron Poole-Dayan, the Founder and Executive Director, and his husband were among the first same-sex couples in the nation to father children through gestational surrogacy. His twins were conceived with the use of eggs donated by Greg's sister, and carried by a gestational carrier. This experience inspired him to start the organization to help other families.
Men Having Babies and Cofertility
As an egg donation agency, we appreciate the level of care and attention that Men Having Babies gives to each and every prospective father. We have seen firsthand the positive impact that their work has on the lives of LGBTQ+ families, and we are proud to be a part of this important community.
Overall, Men Having Babies is an invaluable resource for gay men who want to start a family. By providing comprehensive support and resources, they make the process easier, more affordable, and more emotionally manageable. They are a testament to the power of community-building and the importance of supporting LGBTQ+ families. We are grateful for their work and proud to support their mission.
